Beginning with a baroque style solo guitar arrangement, then layering the music with
a bed of picking acoustic guitars, The Christmas Guitaropens with Hark! The Herald Angels Sing!
The music builds, adding guitars and harmonies on each successive chorus, culminating
with the return of a contrapuntal figure from the solo arrangement used
as a harmony figure. The First Noel begins more simply with a single
line solo prior a full solo arrangement and then a layer of picking guitars
beneath lead and harmonies.Many of the arrangements
feature solo guitar sections at the beginning or end. About half of the
pieces include mandolin. There are several "choral" guitar sections,
single line guitars playing in harmony, sometimes with, sometimes without
accompaniment. This "wire choir" appears in many of the music arrangements on The Christmas Guitar.
